 These are the books that have shaped how I think about what it means to actually walk with God — not just know about Him but know Him. I only recommend what I have personally read and found genuinely helpful.

I picked this up simply because I love Paul Tripp — I had no idea I was about to read a counseling book. But somewhere in the first few chapters I remember thinking, this is exactly what I have been learning in my biblical counseling classes. Tripp has a way of getting past the surface and right to the heart of what is really going on in our lives — and then pointing you straight back to the Redeemer who meets you there. This book will change the way you see yourself, the people around you, and how God uses ordinary people in each other's lives. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

 This book does something rare — it slows you down and lets you see the heart of Jesus toward you. Not a distant God waiting for you to get it together, but a Father who is gentle and lowly, who draws near especially in your weakness and struggle. I came away from this book with a deeper sense of being loved by God than I had before. If you have ever wondered what God really thinks of you, start here. 

 This is one of those books that belongs in every Christian woman's library. Packer writes about the character and attributes of God in a way that is both theologically rich and deeply personal. I believe the more clearly we see who God is the more our lives are shaped by that knowledge. This book has done that for me. It is not a quick read but it is a rewarding one. Come back to it in different seasons of life and you will find something new every time. 

 This is one of those books I wish I had the moment I became a Christian. I have used it to disciple so many women over the years and it never gets old. Donald Whitney has a way of making you feel like he is sitting right across the table from you, walking you through not just what the spiritual disciplines are but why they matter and how they grow your love for the Lord. If you are newer in your faith or want to go deeper, this is where I would start. And if you are discipling someone — do this book together. We also love giving this as a graduation gift — it is the kind of book that will follow them into every season of life. 

 Bridges writes about the sins we have learned to live with — the ones we do not talk about because they do not seem as bad as the obvious ones. Pride. Anxiety. Selfishness. Impatience. Judgmentalism. He names them gently and points you back to the gospel with every chapter. This book convicted me and gave me hope at the same time. 

  This is the book that helped me understand that holiness is not about trying harder. It is about cooperating with what God is already doing in you. Bridges writes with a clarity and humility that I find deeply trustworthy. If you want to grow in your faith in a real and lasting way, this is a foundational read. 

   This was my first Lisa Hughes book and it ruined me in the best way. She has a gift for cutting through the noise and bringing you back to what actually matters — living out the gospel as a woman in your everyday, ordinary life. Not a list of rules but a gentle realignment of your heart toward God's priorities for you. From the first pages it felt like Lisa was right there in my living room, speaking truth with so much warmth and grace. If you have never read her, start here. 

    I am going to be honest with you — this book sat on my shelf for twenty years before I read it. I kept thinking I was too busy raising my daughters to add one more thing. Oh how I wish I hadn't waited. This is exactly the kind of book I should have been reading in that season and sharing with my girls along the way. Barbara Hughes walks you through what it looks like to actually live out the gospel as a woman — not perfectly, but faithfully. Don't make my mistake. Wherever you are in life, take it off the shelf.

Anne Ortlund has a way of making you feel like she is sitting right there in your living room, gently discipling you into the woman God made you to be. She covers it all — your soul, your heart, your home. I wish I had found this earlier in my life, especially as preparation for marriage. If you are a young woman, a newlywed, or simply want to grow in who you are as a woman before the Lord — this is for you.

    I believe every woman should know the story of Elisabeth Elliot. Ellen Vaughn tells it beautifully across these two volumes — her family and the woman she was becoming before she ever met Jim, her extraordinary life with him, and then the remarkable way she walked through his death and all that came after. This is not just a biography. It is a testimony to the faithfulness of Christ in the great times and in the hard times, in joy and in grief, in clarity and in deep uncertainty. Her life will challenge you, move you, and leave you more in love with the Lord who walked with her through all of it. Read them both. 

 The second volume of Ellen Vaughn's biography of Elisabeth Elliot picks up where the first leaves off and does not disappoint. If Becoming Elisabeth Elliot shows you how she was formed, this one shows you how she lived — with conviction, with grace, and with an unwavering commitment to follow Christ wherever He led. Read them in order. You will not want to put them down. 

 This was one of the first books I read with a group of ladies at our very first church and it has never left me. Darlene Deibler Rose was a young newlywed missionary who followed her husband to New Guinea and found herself imprisoned in a Japanese POW camp during World War II. She lost her husband, faced the executioner's sword, and was miraculously spared. Her story is deeply convicting — not in a way that condemns but in a way that shows you what it truly looks like to live out the gospel no matter what surrounds you. She held nothing back. She trusted everything to the Lord. If you want to see what surrender looks like in the most extraordinary circumstances, read this book. 

 This book will wreck you and restore you at the same time. Corrie ten Boom tells the story of her family hiding Jewish refugees in their home in Holland during World War II, their arrest, and the unimaginable years that followed in Ravensbrück concentration camp where her beloved sister Betsie died. What stays with me is not just what Corrie survived but how she survived it — clinging to the Lord in the darkest pit imaginable. Betsie's words have never left me: there is no pit so deep that He is not deeper still. If you want to go deeper into Corrie's story of forgiveness — her extraordinary encounter with a former guard after the war — look up her article I'm Still Learning to Forgive. It is one of the most powerful things I have ever read about what it means to follow Christ even when it costs everything.
